A Full Review of WinGuggle, a Free Key Finder Tool

WinGuggle v2.5.

The WinGuggle free key finder program isn't my favorite of these types of utilities but it does do its job. If you're looking for only your Windows or Office product key, WinGuggle should come through just fine.

WinGuggle is pretty easy to use and does include the unique feature, even among some premium keyfinder programs I've reviewed, of being able to modify the OEM data currently configured in Windows.

Tip: Please read my Key Finder Programs FAQ for more information on key finder programs in general.

More About WinGuggle

Here are some more details on WinGuggle, including what major operating system and software programs it finds product keys and serial numbers for:

Finds Keys for Operating Systems: Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP

Finds Keys for Other Software: Microsoft Office 2010, Office 2007, Office 2003, and Office XP

Pros:

  • Instant display of your Windows and Office product keys
  • Very small download size
  • Nothing to install - simply run after unzipping
  • Ability to copy the product key for pasting in backup file
  • No anti-virus warning when starting program
  • Ability to view and change OEM information
  • Includes a built-in system information tool

    Cons:

    • Product start time is a little slow
    • Browser window opens on program load
    • Product key finding ability limited to major Windows and Office versions
    • Shows keys for Windows 10, Windows 8, and MS Office 2013... but they aren't correct!

    My Thoughts on WinGuggle

My biggest issue with WinGuggle v2.5 is that it only finds the product keys for a few operating systems and other Microsoft programs.

Most keyfinder programs have a much broader scope.

One unique feature with WinGuggle is its ability to change the OEM information for your computer. The OEM information contains your computer's make and model and your computer manufacturer's support information. If you've built your computer yourself, your OEM information is likely blank so you could add your own if you wanted. It's not a feature very related to finding product keys or serial numbers but it might be useful to some.

Something else that's included in WinGuggle but that isn't really related to product keys is what's found in the System Summary tab. Some information about the installed computer hardware is found here like details on the video card, keyboard and mouse, storage devices, and CD drive, and as well as the version and build number of your Windows installation and the lots of information about the network adapter (e.g. the default gateway IP address, the adapter's device ID, its MAC address, and more).

One other thing I like about WinGuggle is that it will not trigger a response by your anti-virus program. Many keyfinder programs will do this because of how they access Windows to retrieve the product key but WinGuggle has found a way around this.

Even though the other programs aren't really viruses or threats to your PC, a keyfinder program that doesn't cause a red flag is good in my book.

Didn't find what you were looking for with WinGuggle? Try another free key finder program or maybe even a premium key finder tool. Another key finder might be able to find the serial number or product key for your specific program.
