Why Is My Wi-Fi Network Slow at Certain Times of Day?

One of our readers recently mentioned that their home Wi-Fi "... connection acts strangely at certain times of the day. The connection is weak and sometimes loses connectivity in the early morning until 10 AM." It's not uncommon for Internet connections to slow down during peak usage hours (typically early evenings), but local wireless networks themselves generally don't have this problem. Possible explanations include:

  • interference from a neighbor's network that's active at the same times of day
  • devices on the network scheduled to run daily home network backups
  • malware running inside the home
