How to Connect a DTV Box to an Analog TV

If you've got an analog TV and want to watch current digital content, you will, of course, need a DTV (digital TV) Converter Box. These DTV boxes are relatively cheap and easy to find. Hooking them up is a breeze with this 5-step process. We'll have you up and running in no time.

Step 1: Connect coaxial cable from antenna

Step 1: Go to the back your TV and unplug the coaxial cable that's connected to the "From Antenna" port. On the back of the DTV box, you'll see two connections. The one on the left is labeled "From Antenna". This is the one you want. Take the coaxial cable that isn't attached to the antenna and attach it to the DTV converter box 'From Antenna' input.

Step 2: Connect output from DTV converter box

Step 2: Connect your choice of either coaxial or RCA composite cables to the 'To TV (RF)' or 'Out to TV composite' output on DTV converter box. Image property of Matthew Torres - tv.about.com

Step 2: The connection next to the "From Antenna", immediately to its right on the back of the DTV converter box, is labeled 'To TV (RF)' or 'Out to TV composite'. Now you want this one. Take either a coaxial or RCA composite cable (your choice) and connect it here. Please note that there will be one coaxial cable, but there may be several RCA composite cables.

Step 3: Connect DTV converter box to TV

Step 3: Grab the opposite end of the cables from step 2 and connect your choice of either coaxial or RCA composite cables to the 'From Antenna' or 'Video 1/AUX' input on TV. Image property of Matthew Torres - tv.about.com

Step 3: Now look on the back of your TV. You'll see either a "From Antenna" or "Video 1/AUX" input. Take the coaxial cable from Step 2, or the RCA composite cables and plug them in here.

Step 4 - Configure DTV converter box to decode signals from antenna

Steps 4 - Plug in both your TV and DTV converter box and turn them both on Use the instructions that came with the converter box and turn your TV to channel 3 or 4. Follow the on-screen instructions to configure the DTV converter box to decode signals and enjoy your programming!
