Bart's Stuff Test is a portable hard drive testing program that performs a stress test against a hard drive by repeatedly writing data to it and displaying a live log of the transfer speed.

Though you can only install Bart's Stuff Test on a Windows computer, it can actually test any hard drive regardless of the installed OS. This means that even though Bart's Stuff Test runs in Windows, you can test another internet hard drive even if it's running macOS, Linux, etc.

Important: You may need to replace the hard drive if it fails any of your tests.

Note: This review is of Bart's Stuff Test version 5.1.4. Please let me know if there's a newer version I need to review.

More About Bart's Stuff Test

Bart's Stuff Test works by writing a file to a hard drive, which means any operating system, local or remote hard drive, and file system is supported even if it hasn't been formatted or partitioned.

The idea is to create a scenario where lots of data is being written to a drive over and over. If an issue comes up while this happens, it could mean that the drive needs to be replaced.

Click the button next to the Path text box and then click the Folder button. Choose the hard drive you need to test and click the Start button.

As a scan is in progress, you can view the number of blocks that have been written; the total size of blocks that have been written; and the current, maximum, and average transfer rate.

Click Options for specific scan operating settings. You can run a normal test that continues until you manually stop it, define a particular write pattern, or launch a quick speed test. You can also define how large the block size should be and how much free space should be retained after writing the data to the drive.

My Thoughts on Bart's Stuff Test

Bart's Stuff Test is a great program to test the read/write transfer speed and reliability of any hard drive.

It's super easy to use and works with basically any drive, even if it's on a network.

Other Free HDD Testing Tools

If you've given Bart's Stuff Test a try but would like to use a different hard drive testing program, I recommend Seagate SeaTools, GSmartControl, DiskCheckup, HDDScan, and Windows Drive Fitness Test. Each of those programs have unique features and may be easier or harder to use than the others, but those differences are pointed out in each of those reviews.
